High Blood Pressure Can Be A Killer!

About My one-fourth of people in America have high blood pressure, or hypertension. Some say the number is as high as one-third. Since grade school it seems, I have had high blood pressure. I didn’t always know I had it, because I thought the way I was feeling was normal.

I have a family history of hypertension.?? One of the things to look for is if your mother, father and brother all had that disease.?? Mine did. If I had a sister she probably would have had it too. If I hadn’t had it in my youth I probably would have contracted it by now. The older you get the more likely you are to have high blood pressure.

What is high blood pressure exactly? Think of your heart as a pump that distributes blood into your arteries each time it beats. When it is beating, it pushes the blood with more force against the artery wall than it does in between beats, when it is at rest. When it beats, that is systolic pressure. When the heart is at rest between beats, that is diastolic pressure. Blood pressure of 120/80 or a little lower is normal. 140/90 is high blood pressure. 200/100 is bad. See a doctor!

Medical publications and many doctors say there are no symptoms of high blood pressure. As one who has had this problem for years, I know differently. When my pressure gets high, I develop a nagging headache between my eyes. My face gets red and flushed. I have trouble talking. If I let it go without taking an emergency high blood pressure pill, I’m usually in trouble from some other problem, like stroke or a heart attack. I know, because I’ve had both.

Here are a few things the Doctor has told me to do if I want to lower my blood pressure. Sadly, I sort of pick and choose the remedies I want.

?????Exercise: I walk daily, but not enough. Walking just 30 minutes per day can lower your blood pressure. I don’t have enough will power to exercise more than that. My doctors told me to walk 15 minutes one way and then turn around and walk back toward home. That seemed like such good advice that I started walking.

?????Watch my weight: I’m onely about 10 pounds overweight, maybe 15. People with more body weight than they should have are inviting something in their body to break down. Losing weight can lower your blood pressure and make you feel better all over.

?????Smoking:?? Don’t smoke or drink, which raises blood pressure. Neither should you. That sounded pretty self-righteous didn’t it? I’ve never seen a reformed smoker that didn’t sound holier than thou when was advising someone to stop smoking.

?????Too much salt: I’m guilty and so is much of America. We forget that just about everything we eat already has salt in it and yet we add more. The more salt we eat, the higher our blood pressure.

?????Stress: It can be a killer. In our stress filled society, stress related blood pressure problems are everywhere. Take time to relax a little whether you are at home or work.?? Take a break. Make yourself listen to good soft music or take a nap; anything to relieve the pressure of our hectic existence. Do that and you will knock a few points off your blood pressure and feel healthier.??Do what you can to keep your blood pressure under control. Whether it’s by medicine, exercise or just losing weight, high blood??pressure can be a killer.

How To Handle The Destructive Effects Of Hyperactive Disorder

Attention Deficit and Hyperactive Disorder

The diagnosis of ADHD is difficult because the symptoms of inattention and hyperactivity are so ubiquitous in the general population. The fact is that most people would love to calm down and concentrate better. Perhaps the most important is the requirement that the symptoms have an onset before age seven.

The symptoms of ADHD are divided into the three categories of inattentiveness, impulsivity, and hyperactivity. How these look will vary depending on the person’s developmental stage. For example, hyperactivity in children may be manifested by excessive motor activity, such as running, climbing and difficulty remaining seated. In adolescents and adults, hyperactivity may be more elusive and take the form of restlessness or problem engaging in stationary activities, such as reading or doing paperwork.

Perhaps the most characteristic of ADHD is distractibility. You can’t keep your attention concentrated on a specific task, school assignment, household chore, or the rules of a game. This results in careless mistakes, quick shifts from one pending thing to the next, and numerous uncompleted tasks. In social scenarios, you experience difficulty continuing conversation, often changing topics rapidly and not really listening to what other persons are saying.

In evaluating yourself or your child for ADHD, it is important to agnise that the behaviors that typify the disorder are normal for children at certain ages and developmental levels. No one should get the diagnosis of ADHD merely because he or she is distractible and hyperactive. The symptoms have to have began early in life; be severe, persistent, and disabling; taking place in multiple contexts; and not be due to another psychiatric disorder. The diagnosis should be contemplated only if the behavior is very inappropriate for the child’s developmental age. For example, one would not consider a two-year-old’s problem sitting through a TV program as evidence of ADHD, since a short attention span is feature of children at that age. Furthermore, the symptoms must be present in several settings. For illustration, flickering in a non-stimulating environment is context exact and does not indicate a problem. Classroom inattention may occur when exceptionally bright children are placed in academically under-stimulating environments. A child that does not pay attention to his parents but can focus well in school is more likely to be having a relational problem than ADHD.

Over the years, many different treatments for ADHD have been advocated, including medication, behavioral therapy, dietary restrictions and supplements, and biofeedback. All psychologists agree that the one type of medication that has consistently and conclusively been shown to treat ADHD is behavior therapy. In behavior therapy, psychologists aim to reduce problematic behaviors and substitute more desirable ones through a combination of positive and negative reinforcement. This is usually a family affair with substantial parent training. The parent is taught how to provide rewards to inspire positive behavior and ingrain limit setting to deter negative behavior. In order to keep the behavioral program continuous throughout the day, the teacher should also be included as part of the team.

Take Care of Your Blood Pressure

Hypertension is a common disease that affects about 15 to 205 of the population. Many people do not know they have high blood pressure, because the body becomes accustomed to high levels, which, however, will commit a silent organs like the heart, kidneys, brain and eyes. But you can avoid this situation and even prevent the onset of hypertension.

What is hypertension?

It is the pressure exerted on the heart arteries, which can be measured by two values, maximum pressure (systolic) with respect to pressure is that the heart to pump blood towards the organs and the minimum pressure (diastolic) with regard to accommodation of blood in blood intervals.

What are the contents of normal pressure?

For adults, the World Health Organization accepted as normal until a maximum pressure of 140 and a minimum pressure of 90 mmHg (14 by 9). However, there has been a tendency to reduce these levels because of the difficulty in demarcating the limits of normal values and changes that indicate hypertension.

What is hypertension?

It is a disease of multiple causes, characterized by a sustained increase in blood pressure values. Values of 14 for 9, even if the person is calm and at rest, can now be considered abnormal.

What happens in the body of a hypertensive?

Your arteries become narrow and difficult passage of blood, which is why the heart needs to exert greater pressure to pump it.

What are the symptoms?

Most people who have hypertension have no symptoms. When present, however, can manifest as headaches, nosebleeds, dizziness and ringing in the ears. Others such as palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, swelling, vision changes, memory loss and balance, paleness, urinary problems and pain in the legs show that the target organs of the disease may be compromised. In these cases, one should seek immediate medical attention.

What are the causes of disease?

In 90 to 905 cases there is a known cause of hypertension. But eventually, endocrine and kidney problems, pregnancy, frequent use of some drugs (contraceptives, decongestants, antidepressants, steroids, and appetite suppressants) of cocaine, as well as neurological diseases may be causes of hypertension.

Hypertension as can be diagnosed?

The diagnosis is based on the measurement of blood pressure with an apparatus used in hospitals, clinics and offices. Although simple pressure measurement alone is influenced by several factors. Because of this, today’s medicine uses additional resources to diagnose hypertension.

What resources are these?

One is the stress test, which measures the pressure of the individual during physical exertion and can show if it has risk of developing hypertension. Another is the ambulatory blood pressure (MAP), which registers the pressure of the patient 24 hours over the course of their daily activities and sleep, providing data relevant to the doctor. But none of these features replaces the patient’s clinical evaluation and blood pressure measurement in the office.

Why is it important control hypertension?

Because the life expectancy of an individual with hypertension is 40% lower than that of a healthy individual, over the years. The fact is that, while struggling to pump blood, the heart of hypertensive patients are vulnerable to heart failure. Moreover, due to the increased pressure will wearing vessels, which may break and cause a stroke. This wear also facilitates the accumulation of fatty plaques in arteries, predisposing the individual to the infarction. Another serious consequence is the impairment of the kidney filtration system.

What is the treatment?

For some, a diet low in salt and fat, in addition to lifestyle changes of3 9deixar smoking, drink less alcohol, exercise and weight loss) are sufficient to maintain peer pressure controlled. Others, however, require drugs. But only your doctor can determine the type of hypertension, assess the state of the target organs of the disease and prescribe the proper treatment.

How can you prevent hypertension?

Lead a healthy lifestyle, maintaining a healthy weight, avoid alcoholic beverages, exercise, not smoking and eat a balanced diet, with moderate consumption of salt are preventive attitudes. It is also recommended that every person over 40 years to make periodic measurements of pressure – especially those who have a history of high blood pressure in the family – always under medical supervision.

Any high pressure is already sign of hypertension?

No. The pressure varies within 24 hours of the day and follows a rhythm of its own, influenced by the psychological state of the person, habits and daily activities. So, can rise momentarily but then go back to normal. To be labeled as hypertensive, the patient should present pressure levels above the normal range obtained in media row, in two or more doctor visits.

Hypertension Natural Remedies Control High Blood Pressure Naturally

Our heart pumps oxygenated blood in to blood vessels called arteries which carry the pure blood to all parts of our body. When blood pushes against the arterial walls while traveling, a pressure is generated, called blood pressure. High BP may be classified in to primary hypertension and secondary hypertension. Primary hypertension occurs due to no specific cause. Secondary hypertension occurs due to some underlying disease.

Causes of High BP

1. Overweight 2. Aging 3. Genetic grounds 4. Alcohol abuse 5. Sodium or salt sensitivity 6. Smoking 7. Caffeine intake 8. Emotional stress 9. Medications like contraceptive pills, diet pills, steroids etc. 10. Kidney disease 11. Adrenal gland disease 12. Narrowing of arteries.

Symptoms of High BP

1. Headaches 2. Dizziness 3. Nose bleeding 4. Fatigue 5. Blurred vision 6. Sleepiness 7. Shortness of breath 8. Restlessness 9. Flushed face 10. Impaired memory

Remedies for Controlling High BP Naturally

1. One should stop smoking completely. Smoking damages blood vessels and hardens the arteries. A person who smokes is more prone to cardiovascular diseases and arteriosclerosis. In other words, high blood pressure worsens with smoking.

2. One should try to reduce weight. Most obese people have high blood pressure. Obesity can be controlled by cutting down on daily calorie consumption, avoiding chocolates and fatty junk food, doing calorie burning free hand exercises daily.

3. Reduction in salt intake can reduce blood pressure. One has to carefully read food labels and select food products with low sodium content. It is advisable not to consume more than 2000 milligrams of salt or one teaspoon salt per day.

4. Fresh fruits and vegetables should be included in diet. Meat consumption is to be reduced. Food rich in cholesterol and saturated fats should be strictly avoided. Cholesterol also leads to arteriosclerosis. Often high BP patients are asked to take potassium-rich food items, for potassium regulates pressure effectively. Food items like watermelons, bananas, oranges, potato, spinach etc contain high amounts of potassium.

5. Caffeine causes rise in BP, and thus it has to be checked. Coffee, tea, sodas that are rich in caffeine should be taken only in modest amounts.

6. Lowering stress can lower blood pressure. Practicing yoga, breathing exercises, extra-curricular activities, listening to music can reduce stress and allow one to be happy in life.

7. Exercises are essential for those with high blood pressure. 30 minutes of work-out daily is very necessary. Aerobic exercises, brisk walks and jogging can be done

8. Alcohol consumption should strictly be cut down.

9. Drinking plenty of water improves blood circulation to a large extent. One should drink good quantity of water to allow smooth flow of blood through blood vessels. This lowers BP.

10. Herbal supplement Stresx capsule is also very beneficial in lowering high BP and maintaining healthy blood pressure.

Blood Pressure In Numbers

Blood Pressure: What’s in a Number? The term high blood pressure is now almost common place within the English language, and if you were to ask someone if they knew what high blood pressure was the likelihood is that they could probably tell you what it may lead would they actually know the numbers?
Within the UK population it is estimated that approximately 10million people suffer from high blood ‘s one person in every five. So what is high blood pressure?
The easiest way to think about how high blood pressure occurs is to visualise the heart as a ?pump?. The heart pumps blood through our arteries and out into our muscles and organs, and as with all pumps, this is achieved by generating pressure. Therefore if there is too much pressure put on the heart this can cause arteries to rupture and the heart to fail under the strain.
Your blood pressure therefore depends on a combination of two factors and these are how forcefully the heart pumps blood around your body and how relaxed, or narrow, your arteries are. When blood is forced through your arteries at an increased pressure then hypertension occurs.
So, what is high blood pressure?
Whether you have had your measurement taken by your local GP or whether you have one of the many blood pressure monitors that are available to be used at home, you may recall seeing two numbers on the screen. These two figures relate to the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (contracts|) and pushes blood out into the body;
Diastolic blood pressure is the minimum pressure in the arteries between beats when the heart relaxes to fill up with blood.
A typically normal blood pressure reading is quoted as 120 over 80, which means your systolic blood pressure reading is 120, whilst the diastolic reading is 80. There are various factors that need to be taken into account when you are measuring your blood pressure and these include:
? You should take more than one measurement to obtain an accurate figure;
? You should try and take your blood pressure at the same time each day
? You should try and be rested for at least 5 minutes before taking your blood pressure
? You should avoid eating or exercise immediately prior to taking your reading
You should also be aware that when having your blood pressure taken at the doctors you can suffer from ?white coat hypertension? which in effect means that you may give a slightly higher reading because you become anxious of the environment you are in.
So we know the target number 120 over 80, what is classed as a high blood pressure reading? In general terms if your reading is consistently over 160 and/or your diastolic pressure is over 100 then you should consult your doctor.
What if your reading is lower, surely the lower the better….WRONG. People with slightly lower blood pressure for example 140 over 90 may also need treatment. It is essential that if you are at all worried about the reading that you get from measuring your blood pressure you should consult your Doctor immediately.
Don’t risk your sure you monitor your blood pressure and know your numbers!

With this contraction the shape of blood vessels also starts getting slender. Therefore when blood starts to flow through this narrow pathway then automatically the pressure of the flow increases and with this enhanced force the blood stream starts to hit heart to cause various cardiac disorders and a sudden heart failure. Exercise And Hypertension

It seems as though many Americans are living a life that leads to high blood pressure or hypertension. As people age, the situation gets worse. Nearly half of all older Americans have hypertension. This disease makes people five times more prone to strokes, three times more likely to have a heart attack, and two to three times more likely to experience a heart failure.

The problem with this disease is that nearly one third of the folks who have hypertension do not know it because they never feel any direct pain. But overtime the force of that pressure damages the inside surface of your blood vessels.

However, according to experts, hypertension is not predestined. Reducing salt intake, adopting a desirable dietary pattern losing weight and exercising can all help prevent hypertension.

Obviously, quitting bad habits and eating a low fat diet will help, but the most significant part that you can do is to exercise. And just as exercise strengthens and improves limb muscles, it also enhances the health of the heart muscles.

Heart and Exercise

The exercise stimulates the development of new connections between the impaired and the nearly normal blood vessels, so people who exercise had a better blood supply to all the muscle tissue of the heart.

The human heart basically, supply blood to an area of the heart damaged in a “myocardial infarction.” A heart attack is a condition, in which, the myocardium or the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen and other nutrients and so it begins to die.

For this reason and after a series of careful considerations, some researchers have observed that exercise can stimulate the development of these life saving detours in the heart. One study further showed that moderate exercise several times a week is more effective in building up these auxiliary pathways than extremely vigorous exercise done twice as often.

Such information has led some people to think of exercise as a panacea for heart disorders, a fail-safe protection against hypertension or death. That is not so. Even marathon runners that have suffered hypertension, and exercise cannot overcome combination of other risk factor.

What Causes Hypertension?

Sometimes abnormalities of the kidney are responsible. There is also a study wherein the researchers identified more common contributing factors such as heredity, obesity, and lack of physical activity. And so, what can be done to lower blood pressure and avoid the risk of developing hypertension? Again, exercise seems to be just what the doctor might order.

If you think that is what he will do, then, try to contemplate on this list and find some ways how you can incorporate these things into your lifestyle and start to live a life free from the possibilities of developing hypertension. But before you start following the systematic instructions, it would be better to review them first before getting into action.

1. See your doctorCheck with your doctor before beginning an exercise program. If you make any significant changes in your level of physical activity – particularly if those changes could make large and sudden demands on your circulatory system – check with your doctors again.

2. Take it slow

Start at a low, comfortable level of exertion and progress gradually. The program is designed in two stages to allow for a progressive increase in activity.

3. Know your limit

Determine your safety limit for exertion. Use some clues such as sleep problems or fatigue the day after a workout to check on whether you are overdoing it. Once identified, stay within it. Over-exercising is both dangerous and unnecessary.

4. Exercise regularly

You need to work out a minimum of three times a week and a maximum of five times a week to get the most benefit. Once you are in peak condition, a single workout a week can maintain the muscular benefits. However, cardiovascular fitness requires more frequent activity.

5. Exercise at a rate within your capacity

The optimum benefits for older exercisers are produced by exercise at 40% to 60% of capacity.

Indeed, weight loss through exercise is an excellent starting point if you wan tot prevent hypertension. Experts say that being overweight is linked to an increased risk of developing hypertension, and losing weight decreases the risk.

High Blood Pressure And Me

The problem with high blood pressure is that when you have it you don’t know that you have it, until you happen to get a pressure test. I am now 75 years old and have had the problem for more than 35 years that I have known about. It all started one day when I twisted my ankle. Wanting to make sure that it wasn’t broken, I limped off to the local hospital emergency room. The nurse, as is usually the case, went through the usual temperature and blood pressure testing. She wrapped the pressure pad around my arm and began squeezing the rubber bulb. After a few minutes, her face dropped and she gave me a little smile as she disconnected the machine and wheeled it out of the room. A few moments later, she returned with a different machine and hooked it up to me. She retook the reading and left the room again. When she returned, she was accompanied by a couple of doctors and was holding a small tray containing some pills and a glass of water.

“What about my ankle?” I enquired of one of the doctors.

“Your ankle is the least of your worries at the moment,” the doctor replied gravely?”

“What do you mean?” I asked a little nervously.

“You are lucky you weren’t carried in here,” the doctor continued. “You have a blood pressure reading of 225 over 110. That is extremely dangerous!”

I swallowed the pills and lay down on the bed for about fifteen minutes. Then the nurse returned and rechecked the pressure which was now at the high end of the normal range. She then began examining my ankle which turned out just to be a sprain.

So, since then I have had to contend with blood pressure which needs to be controlled regularly. I have never smoked or been a drinker. My father was a vegetarian and I had some tendencies in that direction. After my hypertension diagnosis I cut out all meat. I do everything by the book…exercise regularly, eat lots of fruit and vegetables, no salt or fat. I drink green tea all the time. I live a relaxed life, retired in Indonesia and have an ultra happy, stress free married life etc etc, yet I have never been able to get away from chemical medication.

I have tried so called natural products. I consume virtually anything that I can find which is claimed to reduce blood pressure including dragon fruit, broccoli, spinach, tofu, carrot juice, parsley, ginger, garlic and onions etc. None of them seem to do anything as, as soon as I stop the medication, my pressure zooms back up again. It’s difficult to know who to believe. Remember that for years the “experts” claimed that garlic was great for reducing blood pressure but lately they have been saying that, while it may be good for you, it doesn’t do anything for hypertension. A lot of articles on the web which claim to be giving information to you are there solely to push the writer’s affiliate products which for me, have never worked.

A year or so ago I tried DCPC Compound Hypotensive Tablets which are from China and contain 5 potent medicines: reserpine, chlordiazepoxide, hydrochlorothiazide, dihydralazine sulfate, triamterene. They appeared to work OK and seemed to have no side effects. Then, after a few days, everything went downhill. My wife and I were at a kids’ outdoor exercise display. The sun was very hot and, after about an hour I began to feel a little weak and had to sit down. I decided to go home and felt progressively worse. My temperature was 39C, pulse about 75 and blood pressure 175/110. I also had diarrhea. I took DEXA amiodpine and atenolol and after about 2 hours my temperature and pulse were normal and pressure was 130/80. That night I had trouble sleeping. I had been working with a computer program formula and this was somehow fixed in my mind and every time I tried to think about something else my thoughts kept coming back to this stupid formula. Here in Indonesia it is always hot and I am used to the UK cold. Thus I always use a fan. For about 2 hours I got the chills and ended up covered with a thick blanket. My appetite was zero and so was my energy. The next morning I felt fine and all the symptoms except the diarrhea had disappeared. Needless to say, I quit using THAT medication.

Today my blood pressure is generally under control but occasionally even now it will soar up to 212/100 for short periods of time, even when I am just sitting around relaxing, especially in the early morning. I am presently taking Atenolol 50mg, Angioten 50mg for pressure and Aceite for cholesterol.

So, personally I find all these internet ads claiming “Lower your blood pressure the natural way” misleading and useless. I just wish that I COULD find a way of doing without prescription drugs but it doesn’t seem likely.
